Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Fall 2012: Purple Haste - Swatch and Review

My partner and I stopped by Bed Bath and Beyond today so I could prove to him that their GIANT cosmetic section really does exist  ( >.> ), and so that we could pick up a few really cheap things. We nabbed three Essies that were only $2.99 each, and I let myself get just one of the new Sally Hansens. O: Much cheaper there than at Walgreens, though.

The new Insta Dri collection is freakin gorgeous, man. I especially love this one... I mean, I don't have anything even remotely close to this! Maybe the color, but not the bits of glitter. Here are some bottle shots to give you an idea of how awesome this polish is:

It's a rich, vibrant purple shimmer with blue duochromey glitter. The glitter is small and sparse, but not too sparse, so to me this polish is pretty unique and it looks AWESOME.

Here's what I don't like though, and yeah you can probably guess what it is.

The brush.

That fuckingggg brush. Insta Dri polish is notorious for having a crappy spatula brush, but I think this is the worst one I have ever encountered. It's fluffy and uneven and just makes application a pain in the ass.

Additionally, the formula on this polish was not great. It was tolerable at best, but the brush made it so much worse. It's a little runny and it kinda globs up on the sides of my nails, but I was able to coax it into looking okay-ish.

..Which is an accomplishment for me, seeing as this is the first time I've put anything on my nails in over a week! D:

Anyway, I have a few things that I might post this weekend if I have the time, but I'm still not officially back from my break. Still busy. >.< Still bleh. Sorry.

New Stuff at Walgreens?

I know, I know, cell phone pics are super lame. :P

First of all, GIGANTIC Sinful Colors display. I read on a few other blogs that this display was starting to pop up, and I didn't believe it until I saw it at my own Walgreens while shopping for 99 cent SC. I nabbed three new polishes, including Leap Flog, which is one of the actual new shades from Sinful.

Also at Walgreens:

New Insta-Dris! Gah! These look SO COOL. I want In A Flurry and Freeze. D: Too bad Freeze was gone.

New L'oreal? I don't recognize any of these but that could be just because I'm kind of a polish noob.

Aaaand the new Essie top coat that my partner wants. It's exactly like Set In Stones and A Cut Above (which he also has), except it's blue. Very pretty.

Okay, that's all for now!

I'm on break-ish

Hey y'all!

Just wanted to give a little heads up to anyone who has been reading my blog... First of all, thanks for reading! :) This blog is a new love of mine and I really appreciate the support.

Second, I am unfortunately going through some real life stuff right now and I don't have a whole lot of free time for nail polish blogging. Or even painting my nails, for that matter.

So for now my posting will be sparse, if I can post at all. I know soon enough everything is going to calm down and then I can resume my semi-regular posting.

Thanks so much!

Birthday Haul

(Hey! Blog poll is still going on! There are a few days left. ----> Thanks! :D)

Yesterday was my birthday! Yup, that's one of the reasons why I've been too busy to post. I simply don't have time to swatch anything while I'm so busy eating cake. ;) So instead of being a good blogger, I'm just going to share my birthday haul! I just got a few things, but I'm happy. I also have some more nail polish on the way, thanks to Heather from Down Market Fashionista. She hosted a little giveaway and I happened to win on my birthday! How neat is that?

Anyway, here's my birthday stuff.

I got a box of Color Club polish that I think is in the wrong box. It says "All About Color" but I'm quite sure this is the Poptastic collection.

I got three individual bottles of polish:

NYC: Downtown Traffic (China Glaze Riveting dupe?)

OPI: Clubbing Til Sunrise

Color Club: Perfect Mol-Ten

I got some nail apps by OPI and Sally Hansen.

OPI Argyle and Steps

Sally Hansen Stud-io Time

And lastly I got a set of fine point tweezers. I'm thinking they'll be useful for placing stickers. (So now I won't do such a shit job)

If you recognize the brand, then congrats! You now know which state I live in. ;)

I don't know what to try out first! I do know for sure I'm going to do a comparison with the NYC polish and CG Riveting. They look veeery similar, but I'll have to take out my bottle of Riveting to be sure.

Ciao for now,

Blog poll!

Hey y'all!

So I'm going to be pretty busy this weekend and probably won't be able to post anything until Monday or Tuesday of next week. If anything I might have a NOTD post or two, but don't get your hopes up. :P

In the meantime, I have a little blog poll going on because I want to know what any of my visitors might want to see from my blog. The poll will be up for a week, so please vote! I'd really appreciate it. :)

Maybelline Color Show: Orange Fix and Pedal to the Metal - Swatches and Review

Hey y'all! I'm having fun with these new Color Show polishes; I picked these up at Target for about 3 bucks each, and I know I want to try as many as I can. So expect more at a later date!

Here is Orange Fix:

I didn't realize exactly how neon this was until I swatched it.

In the store I thought, "Wow that's pretty bright." In the car I said, "Oh wow that's even brighter than I thought!" And then when I swatched it today I was blinded by how bright it truly is! I think my picture comes pretty close to how it looks irl, but seriously this polish is neon as fuck. My camera was having trouble with it. It's so bright I had to set my white balance to fluorescent!

...I'm kidding.

I used three coats for the swatch above, and I could still see some nail line so I figured it would probably work better over white.

Here's two coats of Orange Fix over two coats of Sinful Colors Snow Me White:

It looked pretty awesome over white. Either way, pretty cool polish. If you're into neon polish and don't already have a good orange, this one is great for the price.

EDIT: I completely forgot to mention that Orange Fix dries semi-matte! The above pictures are with Seche Vite top coat.

Next is Pedal to the Metal:

I actually passed up on Sonia Kashuk Smoke and Mirrors for this one, and I wish I hadn't. This took a whopping FIVE coats before I took a picture, and even then I still have some VNL. Disappointing. From what I've read, Smoke and Mirrors is a two-coater and an excellent siver foil. I've actually wanted Smoke and Mirrors for a while, and I'll be getting that one next time I get the chance.

I thought maybe some layering would help this polish out, so I tried two coats over black. It's not so great.

I didn't even bother with top coat, because I knew I'd be taking this off right away.

So yeah, one of these was pretty neat, and the other was... disappointing. It's not a total dud though! It has excellent coverage and would probably be great for layering. But yeah, I won't be wearing it on its own any time soon.

I still want to try more of these, even though these two weren't the best. We'll see what I can pick up soon!

I'm out!

Orly Cosmic FX: Space Cadet and It's Not Rocket Science - Swatches and Review

Hey y'all! My partner's nails will be joining me for today's swatches post, so now everyone can see how my nails pale in comparison. ;)

The Cosmic FX collection is about two years old, but these polishes are pretty spectacular. (And we just tried Rocket Science last night for the first time!)

First up is Rocket Science on my partner's nails:

Sigh. They're super long and healthy. I'm jealous. :x This is three coats of Rocket Science topped with Seche Vite. These polishes are glittery, but not super gritty, so they only needed one coat of SV.

And look how awesome this looks! Golden green multichrome with a bit of blue (which is more obvious in the bottle).

Outdoors with flash.

Ahhhh Space Cadet. You are impossible to photograph. I tried from a million different angles but this is the best I've got. I also took a "video swatch" to see if that would help show it off. (I recommend viewing it in 720p)

Gotta love that multichrome! I've had one friend describe this polish as looking like an "oil slick" on my nails. Space Cadet flashes from black to green, but the most obvious colors in most lighting are red and yellow. I used three coats on most of my fingers. Some of them needed three.

These polishes are definitely oldies but goodies. I keep seeing them all at ULTA, and I kind of want to pick up the rest of the collection. ;)

Anyway, that's all for now!

Essie No More Film Mattified

Hey y'all.

Nail polish!

Yesterday I painted my nails with Essie No More Film, but I felt like it needed something to make it more interesting, so I topped it with Essie Matte About You.

Just a little NOTD. :P

Maybelline Color Show: Denim Dash - Swatch & Review

Hey y'all! Today I have just a regular old swatch and review to share. This is a fairly new one--one of the new Maybelline Color Show polishes that was recently released. Pretty exciting stuff! :P

This polish is called Denim Dash and it's one of the "Denims" (obviously) that Maybelline released. It's a medium denim blue with a silver/light blue shimmer. Take a look:

Definitely looks like denim to me. This polish actually dries matte or semi-matte, but I topped it with SV because... Well why not?!

But I was also curious to see what it would look like completely "matted" so I went for it. Here it is with Essie Matte About You:

I really freakin love the look of matte polish. It just looks so interesting and different to me. I know it's not a new look by any means, but it still isn't what most people expect from nail polish.

However, I do think that Denim Dash looks just as good (if not better) with a glossy finish. The glossy topcoat really adds a lot of depth to the polish, and makes the shimmer come alive. The matte finish makes Denim Dash look like... well, denim! It's like having a pair of jeans on my fingers. It's a little subdued for a blue, I think. Not boring, but it doesn't make a big statement. Which is unfortunate, because I love making a statement with my nails. ;P

As far as formula goes, this polish was excellent. I used two coats on all of my fingers, but I got away with just one coat on my thumbs and probably could have skipped the second coat on all of my nails if I really wanted to. I'm really impressed. I'm looking forward to picking up more of these Maybelline polishes. :)

Also I apologize for the state of my nails... They were in need of some TLC after I chopped them off with nail clippers instead of filing them, and my cuticles don't look spectacular in these pictures. Ugh. They look much better right now though. Time to get polishing!

Stars & Stripes Nails - Independence Day!

Hey y'all!

I just finished my 4th of July mani a few minutes ago and it's time to share the patriotism. ;P

I used Sinful Colors Snow Me White and Ruby Ruby, Sally Hansen Co-Bolt Blue, and some nail stickers. I can't remember the brand of the nails stickers. They're the kind that are supposed to change colors in the sun, but they've NEVER worked for me... So I'm hoping they don't work today otherwise I'll have some funky looking stars later. :P

Happy 4th of July! I'm off to enjoy some fireworks and vegetarian grilling.

Hey y'all!

So I know I've been MIA for a little while now, and no I'm not dead or abducted by aliens or giving up blogging! I've just been very busy. Life got a little crazy for a few days but now all is well and I will be getting some posts together as soon as my nails have finished growing out.

I did have a post ready to publish, but at the last minute I decided it wasn't that good and I need a little more practice with my french tips before I show 'em off...

Like I said, I'll be posting soon.
